The TCA9416 is a 2-bit bi-directional I2C and SMBus voltage level converter with an output enable (OE) input and rising and falling edge accelerators. Its operating voltage ranges from 1.08 V to 3.6 V at the Aside and b terminals. This allows the equipment to interface between low and high logic signal levels on any typical 1.2 v, 1.8 v, 2.5 v and 3.3 v powered track.

     The OE input pin refers to VCCA and can be directly connected to VCCA, but it also has a tolerance of 3.6 v. The OE pin can also be controlled and set to low logic, so that all SCL and SDA pins are in a high impedance state, which greatly reduces the quiescent current consumption. In normal I2C and SMBus configurations, TCA9416 is compatible with standard speed, where the frequency of SCL is 100 kHz (standard mode), 400 kHz (fast mode), or 1 MHz (fast mode+).

     TCA9416 in SCL_ A, SDA_ A, SCL_ B and SDA_ B has an internal 10-k Ω pull-up resistance. Additional external pull-up resistors can be added to the bus to reduce the total pull-up resistance and accelerate the rising edge.
