Qorvo, a leading provider of RF solutions in mobile applications, infrastructure and aerospace and defense applications, has launched an indoor navigation system that uses commercially available smartphones to run ultra Wirelessly enabled technology (UWB). The indoor navigation system provides a high-precision network for electronic devices to locate people or objects in situations where GPS and other satellite technologies lack accuracy or fail completely, such as multi-story buildings, parking garages and underground areas.
The navigation leverages the Qorvo DW3720 UWB solution integrated into the smartphone, along with the positioning expertise of DW3000-based Anchor Point and German Pinpoint GmbH. This technology can provide accurate, safe and reliable positioning data for the current navigation system. The underlying technology implementation uses an algorithm called downlink Arrival Time Difference (DL-TDoA), which accurately estimates the time difference between multiple UWB signals, enabling the user to obtain the exact location of the smartphone.
"Qorvo is committed to driving innovation with leading UWB technology and expertise in smartphones, infrastructure and wearables," said Luc Darmon, Senior Director of Mobile and Secure Transactions at Qorvo. With high precision, private and real-time indoor positioning, indoor navigation can be achieved in office buildings, airports and stores. "We look forward to continuing to collaborate with Pinpoint and other industry leaders to develop UWB technology as the standard technology for connecting devices in mobile, automotive and iot applications."
Dr. Marko Roßler, CEO of Pinpoint GmbH, said, "We are very proud that with the Qorvo UWB ultra-wideband solution, Pinpoint has truly demonstrated that it is now possible to achieve UWT-based precise indoor navigation. We will apply our knowledge of UWB and location technology in cutting-edge products for the global market. "We are well on our way to realizing our vision of non-tracking smartphone navigation through private and secure indoor location."
Qorvo's Uwideband solutions comply with the IEEE 802.15.4z standard, as well as the FiRa Alliance PHY and MAC Specifications and the Internet of Vehicles Alliance (CCC) specifications. As a member of FiRa and CCC, Qorvo is committed to ensuring the interoperability of devices and expanding the UWB ecosystem. Qorvo's ultra-wideband solutions greatly enhance the end-user experience, making automotive, smartphone, consumer electronics and industrial iot applications simple, smart and secure.
