Keysight Technology launches battery simulation and analysis solutions for the Internet of Things and smart devices

Keysight announced the launch of the Keysight E36731A battery simulator. It is a comprehensive battery simulation solution that identifies variables affecting battery consumption in iot and smart devices, enabling development engineers to improve their product designs.
 
IDC estimates that by 2025, there will be 41.6 billion iot products in use, mostly portable battery-powered devices with advanced battery management techniques. To ensure that these products perform well in a variety of application scenarios, development engineers need to design for the best performance of the battery and verify it against actual performance. However, it would be a difficult and time-consuming task to test the battery life directly on the actual battery in the product, which would likely cause delays to the market.
 
                                
 
 
Keysight E36731A battery simulation and analysis scheme, integrated power supply, electronic load and battery simulation capabilities, to solve the Internet of things product designers battery testing needs. Using battery simulation in testing, engineers can instantly transform the charging state of a battery and quickly assess the impact of design or software changes on battery life, thereby improving designs, extending battery life, and reducing product size.
 
The battery simulator, in conjunction with Keysight PathWave BenchVue advanced battery testing and simulation software, can constitute a complete solution. The solution is capable of:
 
• Extract battery models -- provide designers with an excellent reference for consistency and can be used repeatedly to simulate battery consumption. The model can be correlated with factors such as time of use and temperature.
• Improve the accuracy of battery models -- Engineers can create battery models by simulating the current consumption of the product compared to using generic manufacturer models, thereby improving the accuracy of the models and creating better designs for the product.
• Speed up testing with battery simulation -- Simulation of batteries can help engineers working on development tasks to instantly change the charging state of the battery and understand current consumption in real time. This not only improves testing efficiency, but also helps engineers optimize designs for longer running times.
• Automatically perform battery cycle charge and discharge tests -- By automatically performing such tests, engineers can more accurately estimate battery run time and aging effects.
• Increased test flexibility -- The solution not only supports 200W, 30V, and 20A, but also provides a wide dynamic measurement range from microamps to amps.
