Vishay Intertechnology announced the launch of two new ceramic/quartz based UVC (short-wave ultraviolet) light-emitting diodes, VLMU35CR40-275-120 and VLMU35CR41-275-120, for sterilization in medical, industrial and consumer electronics applications. Vishay Semiconductors VLMU35CR40-275-120 and VLMU35CR41-275-120 have higher light intensity than the previous generation solutions, while reducing cost and being suitable for efficient disinfection with longer service life
The device has a typical illumination power of 37 mW at 250 mA, which is 30% more cost-effective than low power LED and 12 times better than previous generation solutions. In addition, the minimum illumination power of VLMU35CR41-275-120 is 30 mW at 250 mA, which is comparable to the illumination intensity of close competitor devices at 350 mA.
The leds range from 265 nm to 280nm, with a typical wavelength of 274 nm, and are not only suitable for direct disinfection of surfaces, air and standing water, but also provide a 20% increase in disinfection efficiency compared to 280nm solutions. The device is available in a small, heat-dissipating 3.45 mm x 3.45 mm x 1.7 mm package with ceramic substrate and quartz window for up to 27,000 hours of service life at 250 mA and 25 °C.
VLMU35CR40-275-120 and VLMU35CR41-275-120 are based on AlGaN technology and are specifically designed to replace low-voltage UVC mercury lamps, particularly suited for compact device miniaturization. Typical terminal products include ear plugs, toothbrushes, water bottles, refrigerators, air purifiers, doorknobs, medical instruments, coffee machines, ATMs, toilet seats, vacuum cleaners and other disinfection devices.
The DC forward current of the device is up to 300 mA, the forward current is down to 5.2 V, and the emission Angle is ± 60°. VLMU35CR40-275-120 and VLMU35CR41-275-120 comply with RoHS and Vishay Green standards, are halogen-free, are suitable for reflow welding processes, and have a moisture sensitivity rating of J-STD-020 level 3.
