     STMicroelectronics' IPS8160HQ and IPS8160HQ-1 are monolithic devices in VI Power M0A3 Technology and assembled in a tiny QFN 8 mm x 6 mm x 0.9 mm 48L package. The ICs are octal high side switches devices that can drive capacitive, resistive,  or inductive loads with one side connected to ground (high-side switch). They can be driven by using a 3.3V logic supply. The operating voltage is recommended in the range of 10.5V to 36 V, Supply.      The difference between the two devices, IPS8160HQ and the IPS8160HQ-1,  is the current limitation protection internal setting;  all the remaining electrical parameters are equal. The output stage is an N-channel power MOSFET with a typical RDS(ON)  of 160 mOhm at ambient temperature,  internally limited at 0.7 A minimum output current for IPS8160HQ and 1 A for IPS8160HQ.      Active current limitation combined with thermal shutdown and automatic restart protect the devices against overload. In  overload conditions,  the channels turn OFF and ON again automatically to maintain the junction temperature between the junction shutdown  temperature (TJSD) and the junction reset temperature (TR). If this condition causes the case temperature to trigger the  case shutdown temperature (TCSD),  the overloaded channels are turned OFF and can be turned back ON only when the case temperature decreases to the case  reset temperature (TCR). Non-overloaded channels continue to operate normally. The device automatically turns OFF in  case of ground pin disconnection.


     This device is especially suitable for industrial applications conforming to IEC 61131-2 (PLC), IEC 61000-4-2 (ESD),  IEC 61000-4-4 (Burst),  IEC 61000-4-5 (Surge).
