Flex Power Modules introduces 8:1 non-isolated bus converter
0

Flex Power Modules is now available with BMR320, a non-isolated, non-regulated DC-DC intermediate bus converter with a fixed 8:1 input/output voltage ratio and compact appearance. Operating in the 40-60 VDC input voltage range, the product produces an output voltage of 5 to 7.5 VDC, ideal for powering point-of-load converters at lower intermediate bus voltages to optimize system efficiency. Rated at 400 W/60 A at an input voltage of 54 V, the BMR320 achieves an excellent power density of 128 W/cm3 (2126 W/in3) at a small size of 27 x 18 x 6.4 mm.

The peak efficiency of the product is 97.7%, and up to three units can be paralleled to achieve a total load of 1080 W. The product is suitable for top cooling of radiators with air flow or liquid cooling through hot blocks. The relatively flat top design of the converter allows you to easily connect the cooling surfaces through heat transfer materials such as thermal pads.

Compared with the regulated design, the non-regulated, non-isolated architecture used in the BMR320 reduces the output impedance of the converter, thus effectively feeding the input bus capacitance back to the output efficiently and enhancing its ability to cope with large load transient jumps with minimal "droopy voltage".

Protection features of the BMR320 include output current limiting and overvoltage protection, as well as overmild input undervoltage protection. The product also comes with a PMBusTM interface for easy monitoring, which is supported by the Flex Power Designer Tool.

Anders Sellin, strategic product manager at Flex Power Modules, commented, "The BMR320 intermediate Bus converter is designed to achieve optimal system efficiency when used with point-load converters and integrated power level products such as our BMR510 and the upcoming BMR515. It is an excellent solution for data communications, cloud computing and artificial intelligence applications, where power density, efficiency and low cost are key factors."
