Diodes offer small size 3.8-32V step-down converters to support high efficiency automotive PoL applications

     Diodes offer a variety of synchronous step-down converters to automobile specifications. The AP6320xQ and AP6330xQ devices are rated 2A and 3A, respectively, and support a wide input voltage range from 3.8V to 32V. Suitable for automotive point-of-load (PoL) product applications, including powertrains, electronic dashboards, telematics and infotainment systems. It also enhances the performance of automotive body electronics and lighting, as well as advanced Driver assistance systems (ADAS).

     The AP6320xQ unit incorporates a 125/68 Mω high/low side power mosfeTs, and the AP6330xQ unit incorporates a 70/40 Mω high/low side power mosFeTs. Both provide efficient step-down DC-DC conversion while keeping the number of external components to a minimum. The use of peak current mode control and integrated loop compensation networks helps simplify deployment operations. Proprietary gate drivers used in these step-down converters mitigate the switching node ringing effect without extending the MOSFET's on and off time. This significantly reduces the high-frequency electromagnetic interference (EMI) noise that normally accompanies switching mosFeTs.

     The AP63200Q, AP63203Q, AP63205Q and AP63300Q units combined help mitigate the frequency spread (FSS) function of EMI. There is also a pulse frequency modulation (PFM) mode, which can greatly improve the light load efficiency level. Its static current (IQ) is 22μA (typical), nearly half that of most competitors. This helps increase the level of conversion efficiency under light load conditions.AP63200Q, AP63201Q, AP63300Q and AP63301Q support 500kHz switching frequency. The AP63203Q and AP63205Q support 1100kHz, and their faster switching frequency enables the use of smaller inductor and capacitor components, thus saving circuit board space and overall bill of Materials (BOM) cost.

     The AP6320xQ and AP6330xQ step-down converters range from -40°C to +125°C in a compact TSOT26 package. Undervoltage locking (UVLO), output overvoltage protection (OVP) and thermal shutdown mechanisms ensure continuous and stable operation. The AP6320xQ and AP6330xQ comply with AEC-Q100 Level 1 standard, support PPAP, and are manufactured in an IATF 16949 certified facility.
