Allegro introduces the industry's smaller sine/cosine 3D position sensor

Allegro MicroSystems has announced the introduction of the new A33230 sine/Cosine 3D Hall Effect position Sensor IC, a smaller sine/cosine 3D sensor available on the market that provides cost-effective solutions and faster time-to-market for system designers in the automotive and industrial sectors.
The A33230 includes two separate analog signal channels that provide excellent high-speed performance, while the compact SOT23-W package size makes it ideal for applications where PCB space is at a premium. The IC can also be used as an Angle sensor, provided the system includes an electronic control unit (ECU) capable of performing CORDIC calculations on both outputs.
The A33230 combines vertical and planar Hall elements with sensing axes orthogonal to each other to provide 90° phase separation. These sensors are essentially independent of magnetic pole spacing and gas gaps. The A33230 is pre-programmed to measure angles in any plane (XY, XZ or YZ) while providing independent sine and cosine outputs.
"Hall Effect sine/Cosine sensors, which detect magnetic fields in the X, Y and Z planes, are a reliable and proven solution for many applications," said Scott Milne, director of Allegro's Position and Angle Sensors Business unit. The introduction of the A33230 gives Allegro customers a wider selection of position and Angle sensors for applications such as factory robots, windscreen wipers, in-car motors and more in automotive and industrial sectors. The A33230 is also a cost-effective solution that takes up very little space and is ideal for traditional applications where designers need to minimize PCB size or where they are trying to reduce BOM costs."
