     The Maxim MAX16163 and MAX16164 are nanopower on/off controllers with programmable sleep times. They operate in the -40°C to +125°C temperature range and are offered in 1.54 mm x 1.11 mm 6-point thin Wafer grade package (WLP) and 6-pin μDFN package. These devices integrate a power switch to gate the output and deliver a maximum load current of 200 mA.

     The MAX16163 and MAX16164 program sleep times using an external resistor or I2C bus. When the device is powered on, it checks the connections on the PB/SLP pins. If the resistance between the PB/SLP pins and the ground is greater than 5.5 MΩ, the device is configured as I2C programmable. Otherwise, the device is configured to be resistance programmable.

     When the MAX16163 is powered on, it measures the resistance of the PB/SLP pin to the ground and sets the sleep time correctly. It then asserts the OUT output. When the downstream device (for example, a μC) completes its task, it asserts a falling edge on the CLRB pin. Then MAX16163 sets OUT to low and the sleep timer starts. When the sleep timer expires, MAX16163 sets OUT again.
