TDK announced the InvenSense ICM-45xxx SmartMotion™ Ultra-High Performance (UHP) series of 6-axis MEMS motion sensors that introduce on-chip self-alignment for lower power consumption in the industry. And the use of globally innovative BalancedGyro (BG) technology. TDK's BalancedGyro technology is the first of its kind to enable an innovative gyroscope MEMS architecture that delivers superior vibration suppression and temperature stability performance, an unprecedented enhancement in consumer gyroscopies. The technology could greatly facilitate applications such as robotic vacuum cleaners and smartphones, making gyro drift due to temperature and vibration fluctuations negligible.
The ICM-45xxx series also offers a new self-calibration feature that allows sensitivity calibration to be done on-chip, resulting in a 10-fold increase in accuracy over the life cycle of the gyroscope sensor. This reduces overall rotation Angle error, especially for optical image stabilization (OIS) applications where hand rotation errors need to be accurately compensated when taking pictures. Self-calibration can also save a lot of cost and the effort of performing a lot of factory calibration for sensitivity errors.
In addition, the ICM-45xxx family provides a 6-axis motion sensor with lower power consumption than the competition, enabling the gyro to operate 40 percent longer at the same energy compared to other IMUs in the industry. The product family also introduces an ultra-low power accelerometer mode for low-power wake-up applications. Today's wearables, headsets and the like require motion sensors that can detect high-intensity workouts, activities and gestures at the lowest possible power consumption, which requires the gyroscope and accelerometer to be on at all times, increasing power consumption. The ICM-45xxx Bridges this gap by offering consumer gyroscopes with lower power consumption in the industry today.

The ICM-45xxx series includes three unique devices that cover a wide range of consumer sectors such as smartphones, AR, VR, wearables and robotics. Some of the key high-performance applications supported by the family include optical image stabilization (OIS), head posture estimation, spatial audio, robotic navigation, and high-intensity activity monitoring. The product family is also capable of supporting embedded motion functions (APEX) such as pedometer, motion wake up, free fall, knock detection and 8KB FIFO, enabling more intelligence and system-level energy savings in a package size of 2.5mm x 3mm x 0.81mm.
