ON launched the new secure RSL15 wireless microcontroller, setting a record for high energy efficiency in the industry

ON releases new secure RSL15 wireless Microcontroller (MCU) that delivers the lowest power consumption in the industry. Featuring Bluetooth low power wireless connectivity, the RSL15 addresses the growing need for security in connected industrial applications without sacrificing power consumption.

To verify energy efficiency, RSL15 is certified by the Embedded Microprocessor Benchmark Consortium (EEMBC). The group's ULPMark-CoreMark benchmark project measures the energy efficiency of microcontrollers used in embedded systems at work. The RSL15 now leads its class with a "performance" score of 60.5. Anson's RSL10 and RSL15 also retained their top two positions, respectively, in the ULPMark-CoreProfile project, which calculates the MCU's deep sleep energy efficiency.

Patrick Moorhead, CEO, founder and principal Analyst of Moor Insights & Strategy: "From contact tracking beacons to traceable asset tags, millions of connected devices around the world are powered by small batteries, and the new Bluetooth 5.2 efficiency record set by the RSL15 in the EEMBC ULPMark™ CoreMark project will help these and many others achieve longer battery life than they thought possible. "

The RSL15 is designed to maintain its state-of-the-art power consumption while employing the Arm TrustZone technology to establish device trust roots and the Arm CryptoCell-312 technology to protect the authenticity, integrity and confidentiality of code and data. This PSA Level 1 certification design enhances the security measures originally provided as part of the Bluetooth protocol, thus providing assurance at the application and software levels.

"The ability to protect against cyber threats is an important differentiating factor for manufacturers choosing wireless microcontrollers for Industrial Internet of Things (IoT) applications," said Michel De Mey, Vice President, Industrial Solutions Division, ON. "With advanced system-level security features and industry-leading energy efficiency, RSL15 provides a comprehensive wireless solution that Oems and consumers can trust."

The RSL15 supports a number of new features provided by the Bluetooth 5.2 specification, including longer distances, higher data transfer volumes, and positioning through angles of arrival (AoA) and departure (AoD). Anson has also developed an innovative intellisense feature that enables the Arm Cortex-M33 processor to monitor sensor interfaces while remaining in deep sleep mode. With these advanced new features, the RSL15 will build on the success of the RSL10 radio family, which has been integrated into a variety of industrial automation applications, including connected asset tracking, smart retail, and IoT edge nodes.
