Excelitas Technologies has introduced DigiPyro PYD 5731, the smallest pyroelectric detector on the market today. The PYD 5731's small size and superior performance make it ideal for sensor applications with high assembly density, space constraints and product size requirements, including products integrated in intrusion alarms and smart home applications using analog and digital detectors for indoor/outdoor purposes.

     The new PYD 5731 detector integrates a temperature reference element and offers state of the art 1,8-3,6 V low voltage performance. It has excellent shielding performance and can also communicate with the host microprocessor through a single wire "direct link" interface for 2x14 bit digital output. Although standard pyroelectric detectors are usually housed in TO-5 metal packages, the new PYD 5731 comes in a TO-46 package with a diameter of only 5.5 mm. Combined with a digital output and a metal-shielded package, the DigiPyro series of digital pyroelectric detectors provides excellent electromagnetic interference resistance, in addition to industry-recognized high radiation sensitivity.

     DigiPyro digital pyroelectric detectors can be used to activate smart homes, monitor and adjust temperatures in HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) systems, light switch controls, activate security cameras and anti-theft system functions, and enhance the intelligence and autonomy of home appliances. They can also be used in gas and smoke detection systems to help keep homes safe.
