Stmicroelectronics launches third generation silicon carbide products to drive future development of electric vehicles and industrial applications

STMicroelectronics has introduced the third-generation STPOWER silicon Carbide (SiC) MOSFET transistor [1] to promote cutting-edge applications in electric vehicle powertrain power equipment and other scenarios with high power density, high energy efficiency and high reliability as important goals.
As a market leader in SiC power MosFEts, stmicroelectronics integrates advanced design technologies to further tap the energy saving potential of SiC and continue to drive market change in electric vehicles and industry. As the electric vehicle market accelerates, many automakers and their suppliers are adopting 800V drive systems to help reduce the weight of electric vehicles by speeding up charging. The new 800V system could help automakers build cars with a longer range. Stmicro's new generation of SiC devices are specifically designed and optimized for these high-end automotive applications, including electric vehicle power motor inverters, on-board chargers, DC/DC converters and electronic air conditioning compressors. The new generation of products is also suitable for industrial applications, improving the energy efficiency of drive motors, renewable energy converters and energy storage systems, telecommunications power supplies, data center power supplies and other applications.

Stmicroelectronics has completed certification of the 3rd generation SiC technology platform, and most products derived from this technology platform are expected to reach commercial maturity by the end of 2021. Devices with nominal voltages of 650V and 750V to 1200V will be available, giving designers more options for applications ranging from mains power to high-voltage batteries for electric vehicles and charging machines. The first available products are SCT040H65G3AG in 650V and SCT160N75G3D8AG in 750V nude form.
