Overvoltage, undervoltage, open circuit and overtemperature protection of lithium ion battery pack system

     Texas Instruments BQ77216 voltage and amplifier; Temperature protection IC provides a range of voltage and temperature monitoring. These include overvoltage (OVP), undervoltage (UVP), open circuit (OW), and overtemperature (OT) protection for lithium-ion battery pack systems. Each unit is independently monitored for overvoltage, undervoltage and open circuit conditions. Coupled with an external NTC thermistor, the device can detect overtemperature conditions.

     In the Texas Instruments BQ77216 device, an internal delay timer is activated as soon as an overvoltage, undervoltage, open circuit, or overtemperature state is detected. When the delay timer expires, the corresponding output is triggered to its active state, either high or low, depending on the configuration.

     When a fault is detected, the overvoltage triggers the COUT pin; When a fault is detected, the undervoltage triggers the DOUT pin. If an overtemperature or open circuit fault is detected, both DOUT and COUT are triggered. For faster line testing, the Texas Instruments bq77216 device offers a Customer Test Mode (CTM) that significantly reduces latency.
