Texas Instruments ADS131M02 Delta-Sigma analog-to-digital converters are often suitable for energy metering, power metering, and circuit breaker applications

The Texas Instruments ADS131M02 Delta-Sigma Analog-to-digital Converter (ADC) is a dual-channel, simultaneous sampling, 24-bit, Delta-Sigma (Delta Sigma) ADC that provides wide dynamic range and low power consumption. It also provides specific energy measurement features, making the device ideal for energy metering, power metering and circuit breaker applications. ADC inputs can be connected directly to a resistive voltage divider network or power transformer to measure voltage, or connected to a current transformer, shunt, or Rogowski coil to measure current.

Individual ADC channels can be configured independently based on sensor input. Low noise, programmable gain amplifiers (PGA) provide gain ranges from 1 to 128 to amplify low level signals. In addition, the device integrates channel-to-channel phase calibration, offset, and gain calibration registers to help eliminate signal chain errors.

A low drift, 1.2V reference is integrated into the Texas Instruments ADS131M02 to reduce printed circuit board (PCB) area. The cyclic redundancy check (CRC) option can be enabled separately on data input, data output, and register mapping to ensure communication integrity. The complete analog front end (AFE) is available in a 20-pin TSSOP or leadless 20-pin WQFN package for the industrial temperature range from -40°C to +125°C.
