Flex Power Modules' PKM4516 quarter brick converter is ideal for 50 V LDMOS and 28 V GaN based RFPA applications

     Flex Power Modules' PKM4516 platform includes two product variants, PKM4516AD and PKM4516HD, both of which were developed for Radio frequency power amplifier (RFPA) applications in the telecommunications market. The PKM4516 platform is a high power density industry standard DC/DC converter packaged in a quarter brick package, saving valuable board space. The PKM4516AD has an 18a rated output of 28 V with a power limit of 504 W. The PKM4516HD is rated for 50v output at 10a with a power limit of 500w. Both have input voltage ranges of 36 to 75 V and are suitable for RFPA applications of 50 V transverse diffusion MOSFET (LDMOS) and 28 V gallium nitride (GaN).

     These converters offer efficiency levels of up to 95.5% and feature a wide range of output voltage adjustments, 14 V to 35 V for PKM4516AD and 25 V to 55 V for PKM4516HD. This output adjustment range allows for simple optimization of the customer's connection RF design. It provides comprehensive protection against short circuit, overload, overtemperature, output overvoltage and input undervoltage. These modules are designed to be started in pre-biased loads with primary to secondary isolation levels of 2250v (DC). The remote on/off control also provides optional positive or negative logic.

     The modules are equipped with a baseplate for conduction cooling and provide excellent performance, such as operating within a sealed housing without airflow, an environment typical of RFPA applications. For example, the PKM4516AD can deliver a full fixed power of 504w in a sealed housing at ambient temperatures of +85°C. The full operating temperature range of the series is -40°C to +125°C.

     PKM4516AD's half-bridge design uses the latest PWM control technology and a high level of integration of synchronous rectification. This provides a low-cost, highly reliable solution with an average time between failures (MTBF) of up to 7.9 million hours. Converters comply with IEC/EN/UL 62368-1 safety requirements.The PKM4516 platform has been designed and manufactured to provide the level of excellence in quality and performance that power system designers have come to expect from Flex power Modules. The product comes in the industry standard quarter brick format with dimensions of 58.4mm x 36.8mm x 13.2mm (2.3 "x 1.45" x 0.52 ").
