STMicroelectronics' 1 buck LED Drive evaluation board is based on an ALED6000 monolithic current source for high power LED drives with a dedicated DIM pin for dedicated dimming control and low drop operation at almost 100% duty cycle.

     The ALED6000 is a 61v asynchronous switching regulator with an embedded power MOSFET that delivers up to 3 a (DC) of current, depending on the application. The typical R(SENSE) pressure drop of 250mv, the embedded switching feature on the V(BIAS) pins, and light load management (pulse hopping) all help to maximise power conversion efficiency across the load range.

     The current limiting threshold and switching frequency are adjustable, and the internal 250khz oscillator can be adjusted externally up to 1.5MHz. The high switching frequency and compatibility with ceramic output capacitors allow for very compact application designs. Two LED6000 regulators can be configured in 180° reverse phase to reduce total input RMS current synchronization.
