Stmicroelectronics has released the IPS1025H and IPS1025H-32 single-channel programmable high-side switches. These two switches have built-in functions of undervoltage protection, overvoltage protection, overload protection and overheating protection, which can intelligently drive capacitive responsibility, resistive responsibility or inductive load of high starting current.
The difference between IPS1025H and IPS1025H-32 is the internal programmable limiting size. The traffic limit for IPS1025H is 2.5A, and that for IPS1025H-32 is 5.7A. In addition to the primary current limiting, each switch has a user-programmable secondary current limiting function for handling capacitive loads with a large initial start current. Current limits and durations are specified using external resistors and capacitors.
Both devices are compact in size and support wide-voltage power supplies ranging from 8V to 60V, with input pins capable of up to 65V for reliability in industrial applications. Typical uses of IPS1025H include driving loads controlled by PLC modules and for the design of factory automation equipment such as I/O peripherals and CNC machines. The IPS1025H-32 has a higher maximum current limit, making it ideal for unidirectional motors that drive devices such as vending machines.
Because the on-resistance Rds(on) is very low (at TJ = 125 °C, ≤ 25 mΩ), these highly integrated MOSFET switches have high energy efficiency and low heat dissipation power, with single-pulse avalanche energy greater than 1J at 2A, improving reliability when handling inductive loads. On - chip integrated active clamp circuit has rapid demagnetization function.
The new STMicro programmable switch has a comprehensive protection diagnostic function to improve chip safety and reliability by handling events such as undervoltage, overvoltage, overload, short circuit, grounding or power rail disconnection. The switch indicates overload and junction overheating events with separate fault signals, and an enclosure is added for overheating protection of temperature sensors. These switches comply with IEC 61000-4-2 ESD, IEC 61000-4-4 and IEC 61000-4-5 specifications for ESD, fast transient and surge immunity.
Stmicroelectronics also provides demo boards and software for developers to quickly evaluate switch capabilities, including X-NUCLEO-OUT05A1 and X-NUCLEO-OUT06A1 digital output extensions for use with the STM32 Nucleo development boards. And drivers associated with the X-Cub-Out5 package that extends the functionality of the STM32. Stmicroelectronics also provides source code for Graphical User Interface software (STSW-IFAPGUI) to help users achieve a complete industrial automation environment on the desktop.
