Vishay has launched a new line of tantalum capacitors with high capacity and high mechanical strength for aerospace applications
0
Vishay Intertechnology has announced the introduction of a new high energy liquid tantalum capacitor, EP2, for aerospace applications, offering industry-leading capacities in every voltage class and profile size. Available in B and C packages, the EP2 offers radial plug-in terminations and optional screw fixation, which can be used as a direct replacement for similar devices or as a high-capacity capacitor in equivalent mechanical packages, reducing the number of components, saving space and reducing design costs.

The device uses Vishay's proven SuperTan technology to deliver ultrahigh capacities of 2,700 µF to 48,000 µF in B and 3,600 µF to 72,000 µF in C. Capacitors are rated from 25 VDC to 125 VDC. EP2's capacity index is the most advanced in the industry. The capacity of C packaged devices reaches 9,000 µF at 80 V and 58,000 µF at 35 V, which are 50% and 21% higher than those of the next competitor, respectively. Capacitors have a standard tolerance of ± 20 % and are offered with a tolerance of ± 10 %.

The EP2 features an all-tantalum sealed housing for improved reliability and is suitable for laser guidance, radar and avionics systems pulse power and energy retention applications. The mechanical property of the capacitor is strong, and the vibration resistance is improved (high frequency: 20 g; Random: 19.64 g) and resistance to mechanical impact (50 g).

Capacitors operate at -55 °C to +85 °C, up to +125 °C when voltage derating is used, with maximum ESR as low as 0.017 Ω at 1 kHz and +25 °C. Capacitors are available in tin/lead (Sn/Pb) terminations and RoHS compliant 100% pure tin terminations.
