Silicon Labs launches new ultra-low power and high performance PG23 MCU for embedded Internet of Things applications
0
Silicon Labs has announced the launch of a new 32-bit PG23 MCU to extend its FG23 and ZG23 wireless SoC family, which provides best-in-class security and extremely low operating power consumption, as well as compatible software to run in conjunction with its diverse wireless SoC products. This combination is ideal for industrial iot applications such as smart meters, control panels or solar inverters, as well as consumer applications such as smoke detectors, smart locks or lighting controls. In addition, the PG23 adds powerful analog peripherals, including an analog to digital converter (ADC) with up to 20-bit resolution.

The PG23 is small, but suitable for many applications. It has an Arm Cortex-M33 core that operates at frequencies up to 80 MHz and only 21µA/MHz. In hibernation mode, the current of PG23 can be as low as 1.03 µA. With its low power consumption and low-power sensor interface (LESENSE), the PG23 is ideal for battery-powered applications. The MCU provides enough memory for most algorithms, with up to 512 kB of flash memory and 64 kB of RAM. In addition to a full-fledged serial communication peripheral, the PG23 also has an LCD controller, keyboard scanning and an on-chip temperature sensor.

To detect edge signals, the PG23 has two analog comparators and an analog to digital converter with flexible resolution, configurable in 12, 16 or 20 bit resolution. Developers can also change the ADC's mode to get the high speed mode of 2 Msps, or focus on accuracy to get the ENOB high accuracy mode of up to 16 bits. By increasing accuracy, PG23 is ideal for many consumer medical, or test and measurement applications to rapidly build and deploy artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms.

The ability to use the same software as Silicon Labs' popular EFR32xG23 wireless product platforms, the FG23 and ZG23 wireless SoC families, is an attractive feature for some of our customers, including some of the industry's leading suppliers of home and enterprise automation systems.

Security has become a key requirement for many applications, especially in industrial operating environments or wirelessly connected systems. PG23's top-notch security makes it one of the most secure MCUS, giving designers confidence in any application.

By combining best-in-class security, sophisticated simulation capabilities, and outstanding low-power performance, the PG23 is an MCU product that can support a wide range of iot applications. In addition to the above core functions, PG23 offers many more, as well as Pro Kit development kits to help users immediately start application development.
