ON introduces the latest mixed-signal controller dedicated to the bridless Totem pole power factor correction (TP PFC) topology. The NCP1681 is targeted for ultra-high density offline power supplies. The new controller builds on the success of the NCP1680, suitable for designs up to 350 W, extending power capability into the kilowatt range.
In the past, TP PFC designs required the use of MCU, which increased the complexity of the design and required coding. Now with NCP1681, you can save time, cost and space occupancy by simply adding a few external components and implementing a full-featured TP PFC solution without coding.
Robert Tong, Senior vice President and general Manager of Anson's Computing and Cloud Division, said of the new product launch, "The new NCP1681 extends the benefits of the code-free TP PFC design to higher power. This allows our customers to continue to improve the energy efficiency of their designs while reducing design time and cost to quickly bring solutions to market."
The NCP1681 can be configured to operate in fixed-frequency continuous on-off mode (CCM) or multi-mode, with the controller transitioning naturally between CCM and critical on-off mode (CrM) to achieve optimal performance at various power levels.
The new NCP1681 high-power TP PFC controller combines proven control algorithms with novel features to provide a high performance and cost-effective TP PFC solution that also meets challenging energy efficiency standards such as the '80Plus' or' CoC Tier 2 'that require high energy efficiency across a wide range of loads.
The new NCP1681 is designed for higher power supplies in the 350 W to several kilowatts range, operating on universal power inputs (90 to 265 Vac) for a wide range of applications including servers, high performance computing, telecommunications, industrial and OLED TVS. The NCP1681 TP PFC solution will achieve an energy efficiency of nearly 99% at high voltage inputs.
The NCP1681 will come with the award winning low power (< NCP1680 was presented together at APEC 2022 at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas, USA. These demonstrations can be seen at Anson's booth (1124) from March 21 to March 23.
In addition to TP PFC controllers, Ansome offers a variety of SiC MOSFETs and isolation gate drivers that can be used for fast branches of totem poles. SiC MOSFET devices feature low on-resistance (RDS(on)) and compact chip sizes that ensure low capacitance and gate charge (Qg), providing extremely high energy efficiency in a reduced system size, resulting in high power density. When used with the NCP51561 electrically isolated gate driver, a stable and reliable design is achieved without sacrificing switching performance.
