Vishay introduces a new type of hybrid wound wire charging resistor certified by AEC-Q200 to reduce the cost of EV, HEV and PHEV vehicles

     Vishay Intertechnology announced the introduction of the new AEC-Q200 certified, industry-leading hybrid winding technology, standard package size charging resistor HRHA.With a maximum operating temperature of +250 °C, the Vishay MCB HRHA can be used as a pre-charge and discharge resistor for electric vehicle (EV), hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) inverters and converters. In general, designers must use multiple thick film resistors to meet the high pulse requirements of these applications. At the same size, HRHA has a tenfold higher energy absorption capacity (i.e. 6 kJ, 300 ms), so a single resistor can be used to replace multiple thick film resistors, reducing the cost of the overall solution.

     The device is rated for 90 W in stainless steel and 54 W in Pamitherm. High resistance accuracy and stability, tolerance of ± 5%, TCR temperature coefficient as low as ± 100 ppm/°C, resistance range of 1 W to 1 kW. The HRHA is easy to install and uses 6.35mm quick-connect terminals. The device can be fixed on the heat sink and can be selected into a fuse.
