High speed, low latency connectivity solutions for distributed heterogeneous computing systems are essential elements for the next generation of automated driving applications. Microchip Technology announced the launch of the first fourth generation PCIe switch in the market that has passed the automobile level certification. The newly released Switchtec PFX, PSX and PAX switch solutions provide advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) with cutting-edge computing connectivity.

Krishna Mallampati, Deputy Director of Marketing and Application of Microchip Data Center Solutions Business Department, said: "The vehicle series of Microchip Switchtec's 4th generation switches provide the minimum latency and high bandwidth performance required to connect CPUs and accelerators in ADAS. We are pleased to see that the cooperation with major technology partners and customers has become increasingly mature over the past few years, and have brought these solutions to the market."

Switchtec's fourth generation PCIe switch provides high-speed interconnection and supports distributed real-time security critical data processing in the ADAS architecture. PCIe is becoming the preferred computing interconnection solution in the automotive industry for the same reason that it is widely used in the data center market. It provides ultra-low latency and low-power bandwidth scalability for CPU and dedicated accelerator devices.

Michael Truog, Senior Director of NVIDIA Automotive Platform Architecture, said: "Microchip's solution can meet the strict requirements of the automotive market, which is an important milestone and one of the achievements of close cooperation with NVIDIA. Microchip's automotive PCIe switch has flexibility and high programmability, and can realize high-speed SoC and GPU connection on NVIDIA DRIVE platform."
